Le dimanche 25 octobre dernier, Britville, en partenariat avec la Société de développement économique de New-Richmond et des organismes participants, ouvrait grand ses portes pour une quatrième édition de la Halloween au village! Si une photo vaut mille mots - en voici plusieurs!

Sunday October 25th, Britville, in partnership with the Société de développement de New Richmond and participating organisations, hosted its 4th annual Halloween in the village! As they say, a photo is worth a thousand words - here is a selection of our best shots!

Le mardi 13 octobre dernier, le Salon de thé "Chez Darlene" recevait des résidentes du Manoir Richmond dans le cadre d'activités organisées par le Comité d'action social anglophone (CASA) sous la responsabilité de Lisa McDavid; l'équipe Britville, composée de Tammy Burton, François Duranleau, Carolyn Meredith et Kenneth St.Onge, avait coordonné la rencontre incluant une visite guidée du Village. Britville est très heureux de pouvoir accueillir à nouveau la communauté de la Baie dans le cadre d'activités sociales. N'hésitez pas à nous appeler au 418-392-4487.

Last Tuesday, October 13th, the tearoom "Chez Darlene" was the host to a group of residents of Richmond Manor from New Richmond. The activity was organized by Lisa McDavid from the Committee for Anglophone Social Action (CASA). Team Britville composed of Tammy Burton, François Duranleau, Carolyn Meredith and Kenneth St.Onge had coordinated the visit including a guided tour. Le samedi 10 octobre dernier, l’équipe Britville a concocté une série d’activités pour souligner le 20ème anniversaire du Village et le 225ème anniversaire de l’arrivée des premiers Loyalistes dans la Baie-des-Chaleurs. Tous réunis sous l’abri des festivals avec chauffage d'appoint, la spécialiste de la mode Kate Leblanc avait engagé les top modèles du Village, Judy McDavid, Mia Smith et Tammy Burton pour illustrer les tenues vestimentaires des XXVIIIème et XIXème siècles. Les guides-interprètes, Kenneth St.Onge et Carolyn Meredith, menés par François Duranleau ont donné un aperçu de la vie quotidienne au début du XIXème siècle dans une modeste maison d’une seule pièce, la Maison Duthie.

Côté musique, le talentueux violoneux de 13 ans, Benoît Joncas-Leblanc, le musicien polyvalent Andy Murphy et le duo père-fils de Michael et Bobby Jerome ont tenu la foule sur la pointe des pieds jusqu’à ce que la faim se fasse suffisamment sentir pour apprécier un savoureux ragoût automnal à la façon des trois chefs, Darlene Meredith, Mia Smith et Judy McDavid.

Alors notez bien qu’il y a une équipe énergique et passionnée qui insuffle une nouvelle vie au Village de 20 ans – les nouvelles affiches à l’entrée ne sont qu’un avant-goût des changements en cours. Notre slogan, Laissez-nous nous présenter, est réel : Britville est le lieu de rencontre de la Mixité gaspésienne, que l’on soit Mi’gmaq, Acadien-Français ou Anglais ou une combinaison de tout ça.

Last Saturday October 10th, Team Britville organized a series of activities to highlight the Village’s 20th season and the 225th anniversary of the arrival of the first Loyalists in the Baie-des-Chaleurs. People gathered in the festival barn, which for once was heated, where fashion aficionado, Kate Leblanc, presented Britville’s top models, Judy McDavid, Mia Smith and Tammy Burton in an illustration of 18th and 19th century woman’s wear. Britville Interpretation Guides, Kenneth St.Onge and Carolyn Meredith, led by François Duranleau gave a lively representation of daily life in a late 18th century single room dwelling, the Duthie House.

On the music scene, 13 year old fiddler Benoît Joncas-Leblanc, multi-faceted musician Andy Murphy and the father and son duo of Michael and Bobby Jerome kept the crowd on their toes until they were starving for a real autumn comfort stew cooked up by chefs Darlene Meredith, Mia Smith and Judy McDavid.

So, what’s really brewing in Britville? Then take note that there is a lively passionate team giving a new life to the 20 year old village – the new signs at the entrance are a small hint of the exciting changes taking place. The slogan, Let us Introduce Ourselves is real: Britville is the place to get acquainted with the Gaspesian Mix, whether Mi’gmaq, Acadian-French or English or a combination of any of the previous.

Britville reçoit Graham Fraser / Britville hosts Graham Fraser 23/08/09

Le commissaire aux langues officielles du Canada, monsieur Graham Fraser, a été l'hôte d'un brunch dans le salon de la Maison Gendron le dimanche 23 août dernier. Il a profité de son passage pour communiquer aux représentants des différentes communautés de la Baie des Chaleurs présents, l'importance des minorités dans leur milieu mais aussi leurs divers besoins, notamment ceux des personnes âgées.

Le directeur général associé de Britville, Leonard Jordaan, a tenu à souligner le grand soutien que le commissaire et ancien journaliste a toujours démontré envers les minorités linguistiques, et a remis à Mr. Fraser, de la part du Conseil d'administration, le titre de "Tête carrée Emeritus", à son grand amusement.

Monsieur Fraser a aussi pris quelques minutes pour visiter le site en compagnie de la co-fondratice et ancienne Présidente du Village, Madame Joan Dow et de Cynthia Dow, hôte de l'événement et également membre du Conseil d'administration de Britville. Le forgeron, Claude Gagnon, lui a remis un clou à tête carrée fabriqué sur place.

The Commissioner of Official Languages, Graham Fraser, was hosted to a brunch in the salon of the Gendron Building last Sunday August 23rd. In his brief comments, he took the opportunity to enhance to the various Baie-des-Chaleurs representatives gathered, the importance of minority groups within their communities as well as their particular needs, especially amongst the aging population.

The associate Director General of Britville, Leonard Jordaan, recognised the long-standing commitment the Commissioner and former journalist has always shown towards linguistic minorities and, on behalf of the Board of Governors, awarded him the title of "Tête carrée Emeritus" to his great amusement.

Mr. Fraser also took a few minutes to tour the Village with co-founder and Past President, Mrs. Joan Dow and Cynthia Dow, host of the event and Member of the Board of Governors of Britville. The blacksmith, Claude Gagnon, gave him a "square head" nail, made just for him.

A crowd of enthusiastic supporter-members gathered in the cafeteria of the New Richmond High School for the Annual General Meeting. The plans for the coming season were presented by 'Team Britville' and were warmly received - except for some very important questions about how the pub is to be set up: the team was reminded of the importance of not poaching in private waters. Solutions will be found.

Une foule enthousiaste de membres/supporteurs a rempli la cafétéria du High School de New-Richmond hier soir pour l'Assemblée générale annuelle. L'Équipe Britwille a présenté les plans pour la prochaine saison, plans qui ont été chaleureusement accueillis - sauf certaines questions importantes au sujet du pub : on a rappelé à l'Équipe l'importance de ne pas braconner dans les eaux privées. Nous y trouverons des solutions.

Today, a beaming sun and the whitest snow accompanied 15 young newcomers to the Baie-des-Chaleurs while they enjoyed Al Burton's sleigh ride around the Village and a cup of hot chocolate and cookies in the Harvey House.

The Village wishes to repeat such group activities as part of its 2009-2010 winter programming.

Aujourd'hui, sous un soleil radieux et une neige immaculée, une quinzaine de jeunes nouveaux arrivants dans la Baie-des-Chaleurs ont profité d'une promenade en traineau menée par Al Burton et d'un chocolat chaud et de biscuits dans la maison Harvey.

Le Village prévoit intégrer de telles activités de groupe dans sa programmation hivernale 2009-2010.
