Le samedi 10 octobre dernier, l’équipe Britville a concocté une série d’activités pour souligner le 20ème anniversaire du Village et le 225ème anniversaire de l’arrivée des premiers Loyalistes dans la Baie-des-Chaleurs. Tous réunis sous l’abri des festivals avec chauffage d'appoint, la spécialiste de la mode Kate Leblanc avait engagé les top modèles du Village, Judy McDavid, Mia Smith et Tammy Burton pour illustrer les tenues vestimentaires des XXVIIIème et XIXème siècles. Les guides-interprètes, Kenneth St.Onge et Carolyn Meredith, menés par François Duranleau ont donné un aperçu de la vie quotidienne au début du XIXème siècle dans une modeste maison d’une seule pièce, la Maison Duthie.

Côté musique, le talentueux violoneux de 13 ans, Benoît Joncas-Leblanc, le musicien polyvalent Andy Murphy et le duo père-fils de Michael et Bobby Jerome ont tenu la foule sur la pointe des pieds jusqu’à ce que la faim se fasse suffisamment sentir pour apprécier un savoureux ragoût automnal à la façon des trois chefs, Darlene Meredith, Mia Smith et Judy McDavid.

Alors notez bien qu’il y a une équipe énergique et passionnée qui insuffle une nouvelle vie au Village de 20 ans – les nouvelles affiches à l’entrée ne sont qu’un avant-goût des changements en cours. Notre slogan, Laissez-nous nous présenter, est réel : Britville est le lieu de rencontre de la Mixité gaspésienne, que l’on soit Mi’gmaq, Acadien-Français ou Anglais ou une combinaison de tout ça.

Last Saturday October 10th, Team Britville organized a series of activities to highlight the Village’s 20th season and the 225th anniversary of the arrival of the first Loyalists in the Baie-des-Chaleurs. People gathered in the festival barn, which for once was heated, where fashion aficionado, Kate Leblanc, presented Britville’s top models, Judy McDavid, Mia Smith and Tammy Burton in an illustration of 18th and 19th century woman’s wear. Britville Interpretation Guides, Kenneth St.Onge and Carolyn Meredith, led by François Duranleau gave a lively representation of daily life in a late 18th century single room dwelling, the Duthie House.

On the music scene, 13 year old fiddler Benoît Joncas-Leblanc, multi-faceted musician Andy Murphy and the father and son duo of Michael and Bobby Jerome kept the crowd on their toes until they were starving for a real autumn comfort stew cooked up by chefs Darlene Meredith, Mia Smith and Judy McDavid.

So, what’s really brewing in Britville? Then take note that there is a lively passionate team giving a new life to the 20 year old village – the new signs at the entrance are a small hint of the exciting changes taking place. The slogan, Let us Introduce Ourselves is real: Britville is the place to get acquainted with the Gaspesian Mix, whether Mi’gmaq, Acadian-French or English or a combination of any of the previous.
