Le commissaire aux langues officielles du Canada, monsieur Graham Fraser, a été l'hôte d'un brunch dans le salon de la Maison Gendron le dimanche 23 août dernier. Il a profité de son passage pour communiquer aux représentants des différentes communautés de la Baie des Chaleurs présents, l'importance des minorités dans leur milieu mais aussi leurs divers besoins, notamment ceux des personnes âgées.
Le directeur général associé de Britville, Leonard Jordaan, a tenu à souligner le grand soutien que le commissaire et ancien journaliste a toujours démontré envers les minorités linguistiques, et a remis à Mr. Fraser, de la part du Conseil d'administration, le titre de "Tête carrée Emeritus", à son grand amusement.
Monsieur Fraser a aussi pris quelques minutes pour visiter le site en compagnie de la co-fondratice et ancienne Présidente du Village, Madame Joan Dow et de Cynthia Dow, hôte de l'événement et également membre du Conseil d'administration de Britville. Le forgeron, Claude Gagnon, lui a remis un clou à tête carrée fabriqué sur place.
The Commissioner of Official Languages, Graham Fraser, was hosted to a brunch in the salon of the Gendron Building last Sunday August 23rd. In his brief comments, he took the opportunity to enhance to the various Baie-des-Chaleurs representatives gathered, the importance of minority groups within their communities as well as their particular needs, especially amongst the aging population.
The associate Director General of Britville, Leonard Jordaan, recognised the long-standing commitment the Commissioner and former journalist has always shown towards linguistic minorities and, on behalf of the Board of Governors, awarded him the title of "Tête carrée Emeritus" to his great amusement.
Mr. Fraser also took a few minutes to tour the Village with co-founder and Past President, Mrs. Joan Dow and Cynthia Dow, host of the event and Member of the Board of Governors of Britville. The blacksmith, Claude Gagnon, gave him a "square head" nail, made just for him.
